Our Workshops

We’re not just a regular tour company, we’re a storytelling project. We have no monopoly over stories, but we know how to tell a good one. And we want to equip you to be able to tell yours. If you enjoy our walking tours, we also offer workshops that will show you how to plumb through primary source archives to uncover new tales, how to look for signs in the everyday urban environment to develop a narrative, and how to empower you to tell a good story. And we have the best canvas: New York City!

Available Workshops

New York Narratives is happy to offer workshops on various topics to K-12 schools, nonprofits, companies, and houses of worship depending on availability.

How to Tell a Good Story: Narrative Storytelling in the City

This workshop will draw from principles of storytelling to help you craft a compelling narrative, be it for an essay, a presentation, an interview, or just for yourself.

Islam and Muslims in America 101

This workshop will give you an introduction to Islam and Muslims in America to help you better understand the history, beliefs, and wide range of views of this community.

How to do Independent Primary Source Research

This workshop will walk you through how to do independent primary source research without access to a university. We will draw heavily on the Brooklyn Public Library and the New York Public Library as our resources, in addition to others. Examples will be provided.

Narrative: Asad and the NYPD

This workshop is a narrative story featuring our founder, Asad Dandia, who once successfully sued the NYPD via the ACLU and CUNY, for spying on him and the New York Muslim community. Asad will share his story as an example of narrative storytelling and can tailor this to the interests of your group or organization. This class is often given to law schools, social justice nonprofits, houses of worship, and so on.
